In India, the concept of ‘Daana’ (charity) goes back to the Vedic period. Ancient Indian text makes ample references to charity as a duty and responsibility of a human being and the benefits that one earns through an act of charity. Helping the needy is an act that cuts across boundaries and finds its identity in community welfare.

SHIVRATI TRUST was set up as a registered charity after Indian independence in the year 1949 by the members of the Royal Family of Udaipur, Shivrati. Maharaj Shivdan Singh, the founder of the charity was a philanthropist. He had great concern for the poor and needy after the disruption of services caused by the independence of India and the objectives of this foundation were to promote humanitarian beliefs, advancement of education, preserve cultural & religious heritage and protection and prevention of animal maltreatment. |

Architectural Conservation and Restoration has emerged a major concern in recent years. The Trust has been able to allocate resources to preserve and safeguard our heritage monuments for future generations to see. Concerns to protect cultural heritage and socio-economic balance towards prolonging the ethnic values and ideals further the Trust to encourage fellowships and research models. Maintenance of old religious rituals and traditions are still supported and pursued to preserve Indian customs. |

The Trust aims to rescue and provide care for and prevent cruelty and suffering among animals that are in need of attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, ill usage or other like causes and to provide temporary or permanent homes for such beings. Recently we have held training camps for Horse carriage owners (Tonga wallas) to educate them for better understanding about equine anatomy and proper care for their animals. We promote humanitarian behavior towards animals which are sick, abandoned or have suffered cruelty at large. |
